Best time to go

The best time to visit the Maldives is between November and April, outside of the monsoon season with our particular preference being between March and April (excluding the Easter holidays) when you will enjoy hot, dry days and quieter resorts. However this time of the year will still be pricier than the rainy season. Travel between December and March during high season and you should expect find prices for both flights and accommodation. However, if you can afford a trip during peak season, you’ll enjoy much lower humidity levels and very hot days.

Cheapest time to visit

For the best prices, visit the Maldives between May and November when there is a higher risk of rain but you’ll enjoy fewer crowds and great holiday offers. Find a deal.

Most expensive time to visit?

You will find higher prices for hotels and airfares between December and February and particularly over Christmas and the New Year when travellers are looking for a winter sun holiday.

When is Monsoon Season?

There are two monsoon seasons in the Maldives – the North East Monsoon (the dry season) runs from December to March while the South West Monsoon (wet season) runs from May to November when you may experience strong winds, rain and occasional thunderstorms.

When is the surfing or diving season?

For the best surfing conditions, travel to the Maldives between March and October. While diving is suitable all year round, you’ll be able to enjoy better visibility on the western side of the island between May and November and the eastern side between December and April. Dive here during the wet season and you’ll see an abundance of hammerhead sharks, manta rays and reef sharks.

Ramadan in the Maldives

The Maldives is a Muslim country so it’s always worth taking note of the dates of Ramadan each year. Travelling during Ramadan, you may find that some restaurants in the capital, Male, are closed during the day. The island resorts are usually not affected.

  • 2017 dates: 27 May to 24 June 2017.
  • 2018 dates: 16 May to 15 June 2018.

Go All Inclusive for the best savings

Any food or drink in the Maldives is subject to a 10% service charge. So dining along with any added extras can really add up. We recommend booking an All Inclusive holiday which includes all meals and drinks plus some extra perks like free watersports to get the most out of your holiday at a fantastic cost. Browse our All Inclusive offers.

Book your transfers in advance

The Maldives is special because it offers a range of resorts pretty much on their own islands. However, this makes transfers a bit tricky as it’s not as simple as flying into the airport and making your way from there. Make sure you book your onward seaplane or boat transfers to your hotel or resort before you arrive in the Maldives to save time and effort.
