The Autumn and Spring Equinox in Mexico

MexicoIt’s getting close to the autumn equinox when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal. In some parts of the world, this occasion is celebrated in an amazing way. Rather than dwelling on the thought of winter approaching, you could experience a special event instead!

An incredible phenomenon will take place at Mayan sites around México. The equinox draws huge crowds at the famous Chichén Itzá archaeological site to witness the remarkable spectacle of light and shadow giving the impression of a snake slithering along the steps of the famous Kukulkan pyramid’s north stairway, symbolizing the city’s contact with their gods. Astrology was of huge importance to the Mayans and the pyramid’s 365 steps are all symbols of the intricate Mayan calendar.
