There are many romantic places in the world and if planning your honeymoon the choice is vast, do you go for a beach stay, do you choose a beach on an island retreat or coastal area, what about a mountain retreat or a rainforest stay, oh but there are overwater villas in the Indian Ocean and across Asia. Do you select an intimate small boutique hotel or a bigger one, a soft adventure with many new exciting experiences or a hidden gem? By this time your head is spinning.
Having lived in Africa and had the privilege to visit many of its wonders, and if you are a couple who enjoy the great outdoors, new experiences and great people, then a safari cannot be beaten. Early morning game drives in the glowing warmth of the rising sun with evening treks to view the game before a well-deserved sun-downer (gin & tonic with ice and a slice) is a memory that has stayed with me and brings a smile to my face every time. Overnighting in the wilds, staying in one of many romantic tended camps, such as ‘Cottars 1920’s’ safari camp adds to the sophistication and romance, taking you back in time with the all the modern conveniences. Find an evening viewing outcrop and watch the life on the plains as it descends to the watering hole.
Two outstanding hotels, yet for that special touch take a flight to South Africa.
La Residence, Franschhoek, South Africa makes a honeymoon, just magical. A small intimate chic hotel in stunning surrounds, with service and food I felt hard to leave behind. Highly commended, helpful and unobtrusive staff, with extras in many hotels included as standard at La Residence, it truly is hard to beat. It plays host to those in the know, with many a famous face from stage and screen. I stayed in the Elton John suite, with its rolled topped bath, quaint 1930 décor and a bed to behold. Quietly ask who stayed in this room or that room and the list of stars is extensive and impressive. Who knows who you may be rubbing shoulders with in this intimate chic retreat.
Just make it a special time with lasting memories to compliment that special day.
