Our staff at Best At Travel have a wealth of travel knowledge. Personal Travel Expert, Dina Tailor, shares her Borneo adventure below:
When I think of Borneo I think of adventure, luscious rainforests, abundant wildlife and diverse culture. This destination is perfect for nature lovers and those seeking something a little different.
The island boasts remote jungle beauty, tropical adventure and tribal cultures and is home to half of all known plant and animal species in the world. This wildlife wonderland is home to the orang-utans , the Sumatran rhino and the Bornean pigmy elephant and thousands of flowering species in the world. A wonderful colourful paradise combining idyllic beaches, relaxation, adventure, scenic mountains and rich culture.
Things to Do:
Why not visit the Mari Mari Cultural village situated in a remote forest setting in Kensom 25 minutes away from the city? The beauty of untapped nature is guaranteed to capture your eyes and heart as soon as you arrive to the village.
The Klias River cruise is a popular day trip with locals and tourist. On the cruise you will see the proboscis monkey, and when the darkness sets in you will witness nature’s display of Christmas lights.
Gaya Street fair is a length of century old business. Before quaint palm buildings lined the rickety paths now a bustled street full of stalls that sell rice, pets, local art an array of goods are for sale and all open for bargaining (only open on a Sunday).
Where to Stay:
Borneo has also some amazing hotel resorts including the Gayana Eco resort situated on the edges of a lush coral reef island of the coast of Borneo the over water villas are designed to enhance the sounds of the surf below while capturing the enduring vistas of Mount Kinabalu on the horizon. The resort is about protecting the marine ecology restoring coral reefs and the giant clams guests can also participate in storing life back.
