Cape Town

Cape Town was my home for 12 years. Every time I return I make sure I get a window seat on the right hand side as 9 times out of 10 the plane lands towards the South giving you a fantastic view of  Table Mountain as you descend. It’s not only me who feels at home in Cape Town,  every visitor I know who has been says the same thing – immediately you feel comfortable and somehow the surroundings feel familiar.  First impressions are of sprawling  townships reminding you that although modern and thriving,  South Africa is still a developing Country and there is a lot of poverty still present.

Cape Town is a really beautiful City with a Mountain Backdrop and in my opinion has some of the world’s finest Guest Houses, Hotels and Restaurants – and at such great value for money with the recent decline of the local currency, the Rand.  The cold Atlantic Ocean glistens in the sunshine and huge waves crash on the shoreline. Camps Bay and Clifton are a 10 minute drive away and are home to fantastic beaches and excellent Hotels and Restaurants. Clifton is the place to be seen and has become famous for the Trendy and wealthy.8692480-zebra (640x480) (2)

Further along the coast you have Llandudno with it’s lovely coastline and beach and further still, Hout Bay which is again fantastic for eating out.  A trip to Seal Island from Hout Bay is a must. The best way to explore is by car,  car hire is both safe and reliable . Roads are excellent and a vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the whole of the Cape and the Winelands.

I would really recommend a few nights in Cape Town followed by a drive into the gorgeous Cape Winelands for a night or two and then travel along the coast (and perhaps see Whales from April –Nov) to the Garden Route taking in Knysna and  Plettenberg Bay. Further inland you have the small Towns like Oudtshoorn, the centre of Ostrich Farming. Finish your trip with a Safari in the Eastern Cape at World Class reserves like Shamwari or Amakhala or fly North to the Kruger Park, Johannesburg and Sun City.giraffes

Is South Africa safe – most definitely! Probably the most beautiful Country in the world in my opinion and it offers something for everyone.
